If you will ask what the Island of Boracay looks like before? You must visit Hinugtan Beach; an untouched white sand beach in Buruanga, Aklan.
I’ve been in some of the Best Beaches in the Country such as Carabao Island in Romblon (Dubbed as the Next Boracay), Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte (Named as the Boracay of the North) and Panglao Beaches in Bohol but Hinugtan Beach of Buruanga is the closest sand to what is in Boracay – the whiteness and the sand that never gets hot. Convinced?
If planning to go there. Here is the list of tips:
1. LOOK FOR SINGLE MOTORCYCLE (Yung Single hah! hindi yung may syota na, nilalandi mo pa.)
If planning to go there via boat, hire a single motorcycle from Brgy. Caticlan, Malay to Brgy. Alegria, Buruanga. They usually park near the Caticlan Jetty Port. The payment is Php 100.00 per trip (good for 2 pax). Vans are also available coming from Kalibo.
Meanwhile if you wanted to go directly (with 10-minute hiking) to Hinugtan Beach by land travel, you can negotiate to the driver, usually price may vary from Php 200.00 (good for one or two).
2. PREPARE YOUR CAMERA
Entering the Municipality of Buruanga is already a photograph material. Don’t forget to take a stopover in the Arch Entrance and have a selfie. It’s one of the best Welcome Arches in the province.
3. BY LAND OR BY SEA (Wag na yung by Air baka maiwan ka ulit sa ere)
BY SEA: After reaching Alegria, you can hire a boat despite that Hinugtan Beach is not an island destination. Ask the locals to whom you will negotiate or ask your motorcycle driver instead while in the travel; they will actively accommodate your queries. Before the group rate is usually 500 pesos and above depends on the passengers but today due to improvements the rate is only 50 pesos one way rate per head.
BY LAND: Meanwhile the Department of Public Works and Highways constructed road system directly to Hinugtan Beach. No need for a very long hike unlike before but development may ease but usually threatens the environment. Just a reminder, be responsible for all your trashes and actions while having a good time there.
NOTE: As of February 2018, Environmental Fee of 50 Pesos is being collected.
4. OVERNIGHT STAY
It’s possible because resorts are available along the beach. Electricity and Water Supply are stable but no Cellular Phone Signal.

5. DAY TOUR
This is the usual itinerary of Hinugtan visitors. Other Travellers negotiate to boatman for Beach Hopping (Alegria Beach – Wasak2x Rock Formation – Tuburan Beach – The Famous Ariels Poin’t – Hinugtan Beach). The boatman will wait until you finished your activities.
6. BE AWARE OF MONKEYS AND SEA SNAKES (Baluarte ni bes kaya doble ingat.)
Being tagged as the Last Frontier of Aklan, flora and fauna is expected to exist. Don’t worry because that’s normal even when visiting the famous Palawan Islands.
7. CHOOSE SUMMER SEASON
To enjoy the view, summer is the best time to visit.
8. HAVE A SIDE TRIP IN POBLACION
This is next barangay after Algeria. Walking will do. Poblacion is the venue of Panagat Festival during the month of May as well as its own version of Ati-Atihan Fiesta.
